40 Days for Life

The 40 days are over, but we are not done:

Matthew 25:40 states: ..."inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, you have done it unto me."

As we reflect upon the 40 Days for Life 2008 fall campaign, we are so grateful for what the Lord has done. In North Dakota alone, God, through his immense grace, has given us the opportunity to save the lives of three precious children. Nationwide, over 543 babies and their families have been spared from the devastating effects of abortion.

God, through his boundless love and mercy, has enabled over 1,500 people from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota and from all ages and faith backgrounds to come together as the Body of Christ to fast, pray and educate the public on the Gospel of Life. Voices lifted up in prayer, supplication and song resounded for 960 hours - 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 40 consecutive days outside the Red River Women’s Clinic in Fargo, the state’s only abortion facility.

How wonderful to see so many people praying on the sidewalk at all hours of the day and night, when only one or two people were officially listed on the schedule. How marvelous to hear from many churches throughout the state that joined in praying with us either physically, on the sidewalk, or spiritually, through Adoration in their church, prayer groups or in a residential facility for the elderly. In the western part of the state, eight parishes pledged over 700 hours of Eucharistic Adoration during the 40 Days for Life. How many hours of sleep were sacrificed so that others might live?

Nine hundred yard signs and three large billboards were catching the eye of motorists throughout the entire state of North Dakota and into Minnesota. Our bishops, priests, and pastors encouraged and joined us in fighting this spiritual battle, and for this we are deeply grateful.

Radio ads and radio news programs allowed us to proclaim the truth through the radio waves and be a voice for those not yet born; those who cannot speak for themselves. Twenty thousand flyers were distributed and one of those beautiful flyers was instrumental in saving the life of a child.

Our hearts have been changed, our longing for God has increased, and our commitment to life has been strengthened. WE ARE NOT DONE. The 40 Days for Life campaign may be completed, but we, as God so wills it, will continue to promote the Sanctity of Life in our land and the closing of this child killing center in our midst.

Thank you from the depths of our hearts for joining with us, along with the 178 cities in the nation, to be a faithful witness for life to the world. God has greatly blessed our time together and we are privileged to have been a small part of such a massive nationwide pro-life campaign.

Remember, when you have stood on the sidewalk in prayer, sacrificing your time, talent and energy for the men, women and babies entering the abortion facility, as well as for the employees and volunteers who work there, you have been serving the "least of these", those being led away to die without a voice, and those cloaked in darkness. Indeed, in reaching out to others, you have been reaching out to Christ.

In Christ’s love,

40 Days for Life ND Committee

UNTIL IT CLOSES!

And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night!” (Luke 18:7)

This verse comes within the context of Jesus’ parable about the persistent widow. The judge granted her justice because she persisted in coming to Him.
During the 40 Days for Life (actually 50) we turned our hearts and minds to our Heavenly Father and He heard our cry.  Lives were saved and many hearts were changed.
Now that God has “begun a good work in us, ” now that He has renewed us in our faith, He is asking us to forge ahead.  We believe that God is now asking us to be a permanent and peaceful prayer presence at the abortion facility.
We are encouraging all churches of every denomination to participate, as abortion affects each one of us.  Our goal is to obtain a  “contact” person from each church to further promote this endeavor.
If you or someone you know is interested in helping us by setting aside an hour to pray or being a contact person for your church, please let us know via e-mail @ phc@polarcomm.com or call us at 356-7979.
Thank you so much for your willingness to sacrifice your time and energy in defending the defenseless.  Let us continue to act upon God’s truth in love until the day when no more children die and no more women and men cry from the pain of losing a child through abortion.

In Christ:
The 40 Days for Life North Dakota Committee
